Returning to my Roots

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on September 24, 2009 by greengrassbluesky

DSC01825I’m back….I know it’s been awhile. We had lots of good food in the past few months…I’m going to try and focus on what’s in the Fridge-which, as we know, is hard for me. I’m very interested in what’s going in my mouth also. Especially now at the peak of the farmers market. Anyway, I want to look inside again-here is mine. I’ve become very unhappy with plastic so everything is in some kind of china. You may be wondering what is all this stuff…well the small white bowl on the top shelf has some melted truffles…which my daughter and I are gnawing away at. The bigger white bowl has some turkey in it, ready to go into curried turkey salad, and the bottom orange bowl has some pureed carrots. My draw was filled with carrots and I decided to move on from the roasted ones we’ve been eating. So I pureed some, added ginger, salt and pepper and then got carried away with the spices. I’m waiting for Herb (the ever patient husband) to either eat them as is, or correct them. He has his moments of inspiration. There is the ever present cheese plate, which we all know shouldn’t be in the fridge…and misc. condiments.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was quite good here in NY, however I have to let you know that we didn’t ‘eat in’.  We had terrific hor d’oeuvres before venturing out. Thanks to Judy the traditional jewish/american empenada’s were great and instantly inhaled. As always the cheese and olives were flawless.  Thank you Wegman’s. thanksgiving1

More later on the potato chip tasting as well as the peanut sauce.  Dinner was at the Harrison (which is  down the street from my apt.).  We are a large and changing group and sometimes the task of feeding and seating all of us is too much, so over the years we really have done all sorts of configurations for Thanksgiving. This year was eating out (last year was going to Key West).  I have to say, The Harrison was terrific seating all 23 of us at one table.  We are an opinionated group and like to sit together, no childrens table.  Here are some of the choice pics from the meal.  I think the only draw back of eating out for this holiday is the no left over situation.

Dinner and Somosa’s

risottocropNo matter what I make for dinner, there always seems to be somosa’s on the table these days.  Frequently this is in juxtapositon to the main idea of the meal…oh well.

Risotto with chorizo and brocolli rabe, baby artichokes vinaigrette and the ever present somosa’s. I like to think our eating tastes are wandering freely around the world, and as we live close to The Pakistani Tea House somosa’s are readily available.

Fridge as Canvas

I love this…arranging the fridge speaks to my heart, not so

sure about the chicken leg, but understand how she is trying

to balance the colors and space…. Link is below.

This is a staged fridge which is alittle too prissy for me… I think it

looks like it lost its soul somewhere out there in the shopping experience.

Harvest Fridge

Posted in Refrigerator, cheese, family, survival with tags on June 26, 2008 by greengrassbluesky

This is my post csa pick up fridge and it think it looks very full and happy.  I am always happy with the cheese plate and the olives.  Of course all the loose lettuce and garlic curlies give it a kind of close to nature feel.  My fridge does reflect my state of mind and I’m either here and in, or totally out and the fridge reflects it.  Sometimes the fridge is so naked and my family is so horrified that I’ve let it deteriorate to that extent…needless to say my children never make the connection between my neglected fridge and my general psychic absence.  Oh well.  Sometimes my husband moves in and takes over the fridge and if i’m really in a phase of disinterest I just let him. Its hard because he fills it with very different things and it looks like we eat meat and potatoes 5 times a day.  Then when I open it I have a major identity disconnect.  It is definitly a snapshot of a bigger journey that I’m on.

Because it is 40 C here we have to put all the fruit in the fridge or it rots immediately and truely, this is the fridge of the raptor and the rabbit.
